Physicians often make these 10 mistakes when implementing AI tools into their practice’s daily workflow, resulting in incorrect treatment plans, damaged physician-patient relationships and worse health care outcomes. By recognizing and avoiding these common pitfalls, physicians can take advantage of what AI truly has to offer.
1. Overrliance on AI outputs
What happens: AI is an incredible technological innovation—but it’s not without faults. It’s not hard for physicians to fall into this trap, too heavily trusting AI-generated recommendations (i.e., diagnostic suggestions), and forgetting the possibility that these tools can produce incorrect or misleading results.
Why it’s a problem: If AI outputs are treated as definitive rather than advisory, physicians risk errors in care. AI models can be opaque (“black boxes”) and may rely on patterns that aren’t medically intuitive or generalizable. Overreliance can lead to complacency about double-checking important clinical decisions.
2.Neglecting data quality and sources
