In fact, i\u2019ll be stronger than that.<\/p>\n<\/p><div id=\"medic-2858148100\" class=\"medic-mesa-sto-article medic-entity-placement\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3269445924940809\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- medical en mesa sto arthro -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3269445924940809\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8662865328\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>Our primary care system is a tragedy, and it\u2019s reflected in the comments i receive from patients.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is despite the best efforts of an amazingly dedicated number of doctors, who are really faced with an impossible job in today\u2019s health care system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The feedback i get about patients\u2019 experiences with specialists is a little bit better &#8211; but still yields a number of common complaint items.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, i rarely hear patients complain to me about personal costs (even though they may have every reason to) or upset that a certain test or procedure may not be covered by insurance.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s always about their experiences with health care system on a human level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are the top 3 reasons I hear for why people are unhappy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. My appointments are either impossible to get or too rushed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Faced with enormous demand on outpatient clinics and ever-increasing bureaucratic requirements, doctors everywhere are finding it extremely difficult to spend adequate time with patients.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s if and when patients are actually able to get timely appointments in the first place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sadly, this becomes an even bigger problem when dealing with aging and more medically complex patients.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no easy answer if there\u2019s simply not enough supply of doctors or incentives for graduates to go into said specialty.<\/p>\n<p>But the doctors that are left to see patients have to find a way to make the most out of the time available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We always need to utilize good communication skills such as ensuring adequate eye contact (assuming in-person visits, which patients overwhelmingly prefer post-COVID) and empathetic active listening techniques.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No staring at the screen when we should be looking at our patient!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. I keep seeing a different clinician.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is one of the saddest things I keep hearing, especially from patients with a long list of medical problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>They are \u201cofficially\u201d assigned to one doctor, but each visit will see a different doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-8892\" src=\"https:\/\/medicalmanage.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/images_doctor-talking-unhappy-teenage-patient-exam-room_7861-1222.jpg\" alt=\"Your health is simply too important for you to feel like your doctor is not on your side.\" width=\"100%\" height=\"NaN\" title=\"Your health is simply too important for you to feel like your doctor is not on your side.\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medicalmanage.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/images_doctor-talking-unhappy-teenage-patient-exam-room_7861-1222.jpg 626w, https:\/\/medicalmanage.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/images_doctor-talking-unhappy-teenage-patient-exam-room_7861-1222-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/medicalmanage.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/images_doctor-talking-unhappy-teenage-patient-exam-room_7861-1222-585x329.jpg 585w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>They desperately need one go-to clinician to be the captain of the ship. But resources are scarce, and this isn\u2019t possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hence what I call a merry-go-round of new doctor encounters with the same patient.<\/p>\n<p>This is very easy for me to spot on the electronic medical record and is suboptimal to good clinical care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. My doctor doesn\u2019t seem to care, and the office rarely returns my calls.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whenever I hear this, it always hits me hard. To be clear, it\u2019s a very small number of people who say something like this &#8211; but it\u2019s one of the worst things any patient can think.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of course, I don\u2019t know the background to this. There could be an unreasonable demand, a personality clash, or any number of other reasons.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, I do see people who seem like very reasonable folk give this feedback.<\/p>\n<p>If that truly is what any patient thinks, I only have one piece of advice for them:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Find another doctor ASAP!
